Indrek Leivategija (Estonia)

Principal Cellist: Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ENSO)

Indrek Leivategija started his cello studies at the age of 5 at the Heino Eller Tartu Music School Reet Metsa
in the cello class, which he graduated in 2005. In 2005/2006 he studied at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater under the guidance of David Varema, then moved to Germany, where he graduated in Munich in 2013 with a degree in Music in the cello class of Prof. Wen-Sinn Yang, Master of Theater Studies. In addition, he studied in Fieso, Italy with Natalia Gutman.

 

Indrek has participated in numerous masterclasses and competitions both in Estonia and abroad, where he has won several prizes. He has made recordings for Estonian National Broadcasting, Bavarian Broadcasting, and German Radio.

 

2008-2010, Indrek worked for the Bavarian Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra and since 2012 he has been
Second concertmaster of the cello group of the symphony orchestra. From August this year, Indrek will start working in Estonia as the concertmaster of the cello group of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra.

In addition, he is the concertmaster of a cello group, and a guest invited cellist to many German orchestras, including Leipzig’s Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stuttgart, the Bavarian Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, and others. 


In addition to his main job, Indrek is active as a lecturer, soloist, chamber musician, and is a frequent guest speaker at music festivals both in Europe and abroad.

 

He also performs with the German National Youth Orchestra and Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.

 

Indrek teaches at the Heino Eller Tartu Music School “Eller Academy” programs.
